Patricia Baird
Elected

My name is Trish Baird, and i currently have 2 children at St Bernadette's Lachlan (Year 8) and Elliot (Year 1). My twins (Harry and Andy) are due to start mid next year. I have recently finished treatment for breast cancer, and now have the time and energy to give something back to the school community. I am keen to work on the Board of Trustees as I believe the work they do is key to us having a great school, well equipped with good support for our staff. I understand many of the challenge’s families face in our school community being a working parent, and want to work together to get the best for our children. I also have been a solo parent for many years, so respect that we need to support the many different family make ups that we have in our community. I am currently the IT operations manager at Environment Canterbury where I have worked for over 7 years. My IT knowledge and contacts can be helpful in many situations. I have a masters degree in Economics, and more recently have completed a lot of training in leadership. I value the importance of good governance to create successful outcomes. Through my work I have gathered skills in communications and engagement, and developed strategy for my team and the IT section. I am responsible for a large budget and spend that carefully to maximise the benefits to the ratepayer. My team has ten members, and I work with them to develop their skills, similarly to what is required of the BOT. Keeping our students and staff safe is important to me, both physically and emotionally. There are many wonderful initiatives, particularly in Canterbury to support us achieve this. Personally I value integrity, honesty and kindness as my core values, and seek to act in a way that reflects this and models it to my children. I would care for all children in the school, but also our greater Catholic dioscese and community. As my oldest child graduates from the school, my understanding of the school has increased. Now, as my younger 3 join I am keen to help develop and build on the work that has already been done. St Bernadette’s is a wonderful school and it would be a privilege to help. Thanks for your consideration

St Bernadette’s School (Hornby) School profile number: 3521

My name is Sammy-Joe Iosefa and I am standing for St Bernadette’s school Board – Tena koutou, Talofa lava and warmest greetings. I’m a parent of Kingston Iosefa currently in year 3 and also Cory Iosefa who is a new entrant. I am a strong supporter of the school, and proud to be part of the parent community. I truly believe St Bernadette’s is an excellent school where children are rooted in great values. The positive attitude that comes with C.E.R.R values is a fantastic foundation for children to build character and future superstars! Over the past 3 years I have helped on and off as a Breakfast club parent helper. Breakfast club happens every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8am to 8.30am. It has been a true honor to serve St Bernadette’s children through breakfast club and more importantly I have enjoyed being another support person that the children feel confident and comfortable to be around. My favorite duty is sending them off with “ Have a great day at school!” the smiles I receive in return are priceless! My professional background includes serving in Kids ministry for 3 years at Equippers church Christchurch. This has given me a great understanding of how we as adults can guide and help children nurture their own relationship with God. As a pasifika parent and former student of St Bernadettes, I’d bring a fresh perspective to the Board of Trustees. I can offer valuable support and skills to our school board to translate our aspirations into real success for pasifika students and their families. As I also have children who attend the school I’d like to be apart of building a strong sense of culture and community. If elected I will be a strong voice for all student success. I’m open, honest, passionate and invested in supporting our children, the staff and the school community. I look forward to being a parent representative and working with an effective board that will seek too ensure the best interests of each and every child. Thank you for considering my application for your Board of Trustees Representative.
